A random house in the Potrero Hill neighborhood of San Francisco. The hallway light was on and nothing else. It caught my eye.

When I was 19, I spent the Christmas holidays in Dublin, Ireland. With my Pentax K1000 in hand, I sifted the city for images to take with me. As I crossed the river through the tunnel, I was struck by the beauty and contrast of the light at the end pouring into the darkness. And then, in an instant, I saw the two nuns, walking from the new world into the old world; from the light into the dark. Instinctually, I raised the camera to my eye and pressed the shutter. There it was.

I thought this photo and it's negative had been lost forever until my mom cleaned out her garage. I was happily reuinted with a bag of old negatives and camera accessories, along with a journal from my trip. I'm so glad to have this photo in my life again. It is one of my favorites; one that always transports me into another age everytime I look at it.
